Thalang Road Sunday Night Market

Sunday Night Market in Phuket. Also called the Lard Yai Market, this weekly event draws in many locals and tourists. On Sunday nights, Phuket’s Sunday Walking Street Market is the liveliest place on the island. The market opens late afternoon around 4pm and continues until about 10pm every Sunday. The most crowded time is around eight o’clock. The official name for this Sunday walking street is "Lard Yai". Yai means big, and Lard is a shortened version of Thalad, meaning market, but in the southern Thai dialect, people say "Lard". Back in the old days, Thalang Road was the main market street in Phuket town. There is a lot of food, so make sure you come hungry! Any Thai dish you could want to eat will probably be here at the market, but there are also a few stalls selling International specialities. There’s no shortage of drink vendors, barbecue, food on sticks, bowls of noodles and sweets. The only thing you won’t find is alcohol. If you want a beer, you’ll have to go into one of the restaurants.
