Viewpoint Promthep Cape
Back to all places
Promthep Cape viewpoint is excellent spot for sunset photos. It is the most southern cape of Phuket island. On top of the hill there is a lighthouse and an elephant shrine honouring Hindu god Brahma with hundreds of elephant statues. Please note, that this is very disrespectful to sit on the elephants to take a photo. The elephants represent wisdom and strength and local believers pray here.
To the north you see Nai Harn Beach and Koh Man island. To the south you will see a small island Nai Yah with a monastery. Look for a bright yellow pagoda on the island. The island is famous for the fact that at the water’s edge there is a stone with a footprint of the Buddha.
Lighthouse was built here in 1996 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. On the lighthouse door there is an information board detailing the sunrise and sunset times.
Fun fact: Promthep Cape is the image you can see on the so-called lucky car number plates. Check it out and you can see the iconic tall palm trees. Visit of Promthep Cape is free.
There is a small dirt track going down to the very tip of the cape. It may look too steep, but for more fit persons this is just a 15 minute hike through the lush greenery. Down on the cape the people have built dozens of small stone towers. Note, that on rainy days the track may be slippery.
